Millenium of The Tale of Genji (2008)

To mark the one-thousandth year since Murasaki Shikibu wrote The Tale of Genji, the university with its tradition of research on the work implemented “The Tale of Genji Millennium Commemorative Project.”
To honor the founder of the university, Utako Shimoda, with her profound knowledge of The Tale of Genji whose achievements include being in charge of “Lectures on The Tale of Genji” until her late years, the aim of the project was to promote research on The Tale of Genji and the collection of precious classical works of literature and make the results of investigative research widely available to the public, undertakings that have continued uninterrupted at the behest of the university’s founder.
