Chenda

My name is Chenda, and I am a Japanese language major from Cambodia. I had the opportunity to spend a year studying at Jissen Women's University as an exchange student. Before coming to Japan, I was excited to experience Japanese culture and improve my Japanese, but my time at Jissen gave me much more than I had expected.

One of my most memorable experiences at Jissen was participating in the tutoring program. Through this program, I was able to support Japanese students in their English learning, study together with them, make new friends, and improve my Japanese through our conversations. It was such a wonderful experience to be able to communicate with Japanese students in both English and Japanese and learn from each other. Another experience that I truly appreciated was having opportunities to introduce Cambodia to other students. Through classes, school events and other activities, I was able to share Cambodian culture, history, traditions, and other aspects of my country. These opportunities allowed me not only to introduce my home country, but also to learn more about how people from different backgrounds see and understand each other's cultures.
Looking back on my time at Jissen, I feel that I gained much more than just knowledge of the Japanese language. I gained friendships, valuable experiences, and a deeper understanding of different cultures. I am truly grateful to the teachers, professors, staff, friends, and everyone at Jissen who supported me and made my year in Japan so special.
